Holy Moses is a German thrash metal band formed in Aachen in 1980 and is well-established as one of the first German thrash metal bands alongside Sodom, Kreator, Destruction and Tankard. They are renowned for being fronted by Sabina Classen. As the first female thrash vocalist on the metal scene, Sabina has paved the way for others, serving as inspiration to female metal vocalists internationally.
With two hit releases in the 80s, “Finished with the Dogs” and “The New Machine of Liechtenstein,” they vaulted to popularity. When the Iron Curtain fell, Holy Moses was the first thrash band in East Germany on a long-term tour. Shortly after came the release of “World Chaos” in 90 and “Terminal Terror” in 91. After 42 years, Sabina and Holy Moses no longer have to prove anything to the international metal scene. Their multifaceted thrash metal, front woman’s charismatic voice and their unique mix of traditional attitude and experimental evolution have been instrumental in establishing the band as a known quantity since the beginning of their career in the early 1980s. They are still first-rate thrash metal; fast- paced and powerful, chaotic at times but with a modern touch and amazingly versatile guitars and drums.
Although the group has announced their final album and farewell tour, Holy Moses don‘t show any symptoms of fatigue, which is mainly due to their perfect balance consisting of founding members and musicians who have played in other groups: vocalist Sabina Classen has been the voice and face of Holy Moses since 1981, bassist Thomas Neitsch has been in the band since 2008, drummer Gerd Lücking joined the fold in 2011, and guitarist Peter Geltat was enlisted in 2012 to complete the tightest and most brutal lineup in the history of this band.
Together, they have taken their sound back to the roots, with monumental thrash of the 80s expertly merged with contemporary sounds of modern metal. Sabina says “We write songs which we like ourselves and don’t compromise in terms of trends and concessions to wrong expectations. We don’t have to please everybody, we’re our own brand, we have our own sound, which includes the occasional odd beat, technically demanding passages and unusual chord structures as well as interesting lyrics which deal with the dark side of people and their minds.”
Holy Moses bows to no one with their final album “Invisible Queen” which carries remnants of “The New Machine of Liechtenstein.” The razor-sharp guitar riffs give way to death and prog metal, and fast-paced, brutal drums carry Sabina’s growls to the brink of chaos. This dynamic and powerful testament is an exhilarating final chapter to this cult-favorite group.
On the Final Reign Tour, their fans can look forward to a contemporary thrash metal oeuvre which reflects the whole history of Holy Moses from the group’s successful past with classics such as Finished With The Dogs (1987) and The New Machine Of Liechtenstein (1989) to the latest albums Redefined Mayhem (2014) and of course, the finale, Invisible Queen (2023).
